Dr. Mahmoud El-Halwagi, holder of the McFerrin Professorship in the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University, presented a distinguished lecture at Virginia Tech on April 6. El-Halwagi's topic was “Sustainable Process Design through Mass and Property Integration.”
"I am honored to give the Bill and Ann Doumas/Dow Chemical Company Distinguished Lecture and to have an opportunity to share the exciting research work that my group members are carrying out in the area of sustainable design of industrial processes," El-Halwagi said. "This is one of the key challenges facing industry."
The lecture explored recent progress in developing and applying process integration and systems optimization to come up with creative, novel, and systematic approaches for industrial process sustainability while also balancing the complex objectives and issues associated with the design of new processes or the revamping of existing plants.
