Dr. Yu Ding and Dr. Mark Lawley have been selected to receive the Institute of Industrial Engineers’ (IIE) Fellow Award. IIE recognizes 20 or fewer individuals at this level annually. Ding is the holder of the Mike and Sugar Barnes Professorship and associate department head for graduate affairs in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Texas A&M University, and Lawley is a TEES Research Professor in the department.

The significance of the recognition is captured in its description: “This award recognizes outstanding leaders of the profession who have made significant, nationally recognized contributions to industrial engineering.” Presented at the IIE Annual Conference on June 1, 2015, in Nashville, Tennessee, the award bestows the highest classification of IIE membership to each recipient.

Lawley joined the department in July 2014. For the previous 17 years he was a member of the faculty at Purdue. Lawley’s research interests are in the optimization and control of large, man-made systems, with applications in manufacturing, networked infrastructure, and healthcare. He was recognized as the Provost Fellow for Engagement, Purdue University in 2012, and is a two-time best paper award winner from IIE Transactions.

“These are two exceptional and very deserving scholars, researchers, and mentors," said Dr. César Malavé, head of the department. "Their contributions to our field are significant and noteworthy, and this award recognizes that. The award is even more special because it is initiated and approved by peers.”
