The Chemical Engineering Graduate Student Association (ChEGSA) presented the 2015 Texas A&M University Chemical Engineering Research Symposium March 13 at the campus’ Memorial Student Center in College Station, Texas.

The symposium showcased the graduate-level research of the department and provided students with a platform to present their work to industrial attendees. Companies represented were The Dow Chemical Company, Shell, ExxonMobil, BASF, DuPont, Eastman, and SABIC. Dr. Joe Powell, Shell chief scientist, was the keynote speaker (photo below).

"The symposium is an excellent opportunity to strengthen relationships between industry and academia,” said ChEGSA member Leonardo Gomez-Ballesteros.

In addition to serving as an opportunity for students’ professional and academic development, the event elevates a theme of collaboration among industry members and the university community.

The one-day event included oral and poster presentations covering a variety of topics: process safety, reaction engineering, process design and optimization, systems biology, material science, nanotechnology and microelectronics. A discussion panel, lunch reception and break-out sessions also took place.

Last year, the symposium was attended by approximately 140 students, faculty and industrial representatives. In 2015, there were 172 attendees.
