jayaramanDr. Arul Jayaraman, a professor in the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University, has been elected a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).

AIMBE membership is limited to the top two percent of the country’s most accomplished medical and biological engineers.

Jayaraman, who is the holder of the Ray Nesbitt Professorship, said he is looking forward to developing a fundamental understanding of how bacteria and human cells communicate in the body and how alterated interactions lead to disease.

His emerging research involves the use of systems theory and modeling to identify such molecular language.

He will be inducted in AIMBE's College of Fellows at a March reception in Washington, D.C.

Jayaraman also serves as the director of the graduate program and associate department head.
