The Department of Mechanical Engineering welcomes the students selected to be part of the Texas Center for Undergraduate Research in Energy Propulsion, a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program at Texas A&M University. The students were selected on a competitive basis from a list of qualified applicants from colleges and universities throughout Texas, and will reside at the Texas A&M campus for 10 weeks during the summer months, working alongside professors and graduate students conducting research on a broad range of topics related to energy and combustion science. The students will be paid a generous stipend, and have their room and board covered.

REU aims to impact society through the involvement of undergraduate students in scientific research by encouraging them to pursue advanced degrees in science and engineering. The energy-related research will potentially benefit thousands of people through alternative sources and improved, less-polluting combustion devices.

The Texas A&M REU program is led by Dr. Eric Petersen, professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He will mentor the students along with Dr. Staack, Dr. Banerjee, Dr. Annamalai, Dr. Bowersox, Dr. Claridge, Dr. Mukherjee, Dr. Strzelec, Dr. Radovic, and Dr. Lee.

REU is sponsored by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), with Esther Bolding as the program monitor. Through REU grants, NSF provides federal funding to university investigators on a competitive basis with the goal of encouraging undergraduate students in science and engineering to obtain advanced degrees in their respective research areas.
