Relatives of Allen Walsh ’82 have recently endowed a scholarship in his memory. Allen Walsh’s brother Fred ’74 and his wife Merri along with niece Trecie Hoff ’96 and her husband Randy ’97 have created the Allen W. Walsh ’82 Scholarship in Industrial and Systems Engineering through their gift to the Texas A&M Foundation.
This endowment will benefit high-achieving junior- or senior-level students who have completed a study abroad program, which is an important program within the college. Allen Walsh’s family members believe this is a significant preference to consider during the process of selecting recipients because traveling was one of Allen Walsh’s passions as demonstrated by his tour of more than 50 countries.
“Scholarships like the Walsh endowment give students the opportunity to enhance their education by participating in our study abroad program,” said Dr. César Malavé, head of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. “We appreciate the Walsh and Hoff families’ support of our program through this joint endowment.”
Fred Walsh received his bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering in 1974 and was recently recognized by the industrial and systems engineering department as its 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient. He is the founder and CEO of Walsh Petroleum, Inc. He and his wife reside in Tyler, Texas.
The Hoffs both received their bachelor’s degrees from Texas A&M University, hers in finance and his in industrial engineering. Randy Hoff is the CEO of Cenergistic and serves on the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering Advisory Council. The couple lives in Dallas.
