Ammon Berrios receives Texas A&M Engineering's 100,000th degree.
The Dwight Look College of Engineering celebrated an academic milestone by awarding its 100,000th degree at the spring 2014 commencement ceremonies held in Reed Arena on the Texas A&M University campus.
“Reaching this milestone is cause for celebration,” said Dr. M. Katherine Banks, vice chancellor and dean of engineering. “There is a need to increase the number of highly qualified engineers in the workforce and we are proud to have awarded 100,000 Aggie engineering degrees to date. We are eager to continue educating the next generation of engineers through our enrollment growth initiative, 25 by 25.”
More than 1,400 undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees were presented during the ceremony. The 100,000th engineering degree was presented to Ammon Berrios of Orange Grove, Texas.
Berrios received his bachelor’s degree in industrial and systems engineering at the graduation ceremony.
“This is a significant achievement for Texas A&M and worthy of special acknowledgement,” said John Sharp, Texas A&M University System chancellor. “Our goal is to educate the Residents of Texas and our contribution of 100,000 Aggie engineering degrees makes a tremendous impact on the state and nation.”
All engineering graduates received a “100,000 Strong” lapel pin in celebration of the milestone.
The 100,000th engineering degree candidate was selected based on graduation data as of May 1, 2014.
After graduation, Berrios will begin his employment with Quorum Business Solutions in Dallas as a software consultant.
