Image of Zachary CannonZachary Cannon, a computer science senior in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University, received the 2014 Community Student Employee of the Year Award at the Student Employee of the Year Ceremony held on April 16 in The Robert M. Gates Student Ballroom at the Texas A&M Memorial Student Center. He was nominated by Improving Enterprises, a member of the department's Industrial Affiliate Program. Zachary works as an associate consultant at Improving Enterprises.

Cited in the award presentation was Zachary's work on software development projects for the company. High levels of collaboration, day to day interaction with clients, and strong problem solving abilities are required on company projects. Zachary developed an action plan that kept the customer up-to-date and satisfied with his team's progress. "Zach follows through on his commitments and regularly seeks out feedback to improve the quality of his work."

Zachary's professionalism, interpersonal skills, and technical knowledge were praised in the presentation as well as his willingness to assist in other areas such as helping with the creation, teaching, and grading of a three week Texas A&M course project for a sophomore computer science class.

National Student Employment Week (NSEW) is celebrated annually, and at Texas A&M it is held the second full week of April. Texas A&M Scholarships & Financial Aid partners with local businesses to say thank you to student employees for the contributions they make. During NSEW festivities the Student Employees of the Year Awards Ceremony honors two students, one from on-campus employment and one from off-campus.
