Dr. M. Katherine Banks, vice chancellor and dean of engineering, has appointed Dr. David Schechter holder of the Aghorn Energy Career Development Professorship in the Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering. This endowed professorship appointment is effective as of April 1, 2014.
Prior to joining the faculty at Texas A&M in May of 2000, Schechter headed the Naturally Fractured Reservoir Characterization/Engineering group at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology for 7 years.
He has been involved in an extensive reservoir characterization effort in the naturally fractured Spraberry Trend Area which has involved geological, petrophysical, logging interpretation, coreflooding and simulation studies. He also spent 5 years at the Petroleum Engineering Department at Stanford University as a post doctoral research associate and assistant professor. He received his Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Bristol University.
Schechter, an associate professor, is also the principal investigator of the Chevron Petrophysical Imaging Laboratory in the petroleum engineering department.
