The Zachry Engineering Center, the Jack E. Brown Building and the Emerging Technologies Building bustled with newly admitted incoming freshmen and prospective students and their families on Feb. 15 at Aggieland Saturday, Texas A&M University’s annual premiere recruiting event.
Approximately 1,500 students visited the Dwight Look College of Engineering and had the opportunity to meet with faculty and staff from the 12 undergraduate departments within the college, the Engineering Academic and Student Affairs office and the student organizations at resource tables throughout the three buildings. Departments had demonstrations and offered laboratory tours for students and parents to observe the facilities and see a sample of the undergraduate research projects.
Aggieland Saturday participants also had chances to attend presentations given by Scholarships and Financial Aid, the Office of Admissions, and Dr. Prasad Enjeti, associate dean of undergraduate programs. Enjeti discussed the Top 10 reasons to pursue engineering and how each of those related to the benefits of studying engineering at Texas A&M. The presentation concluded with a student panel, which answered questions from the audience and gave an honest look into life as a student in the college of engineering.
High school senior Joshua Morris visited from Houston with his family and said he found the event beneficial, especially because he has been adm
itted to the Look College. “I came to get a better feel of the campus, check out the dorms and the different buildings and talk to people in the college of engineering,” Morris said. “I’m excited about this new experience. It’s a new door that’s opening in my life and I’m ready to step through it.”
