Our department has established an awards program to recognize and honor graduates from the Wm Michael Barnes '64 Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering for both their outstanding leadership and their significant contributions to career, public service and volunteer activities.

To do this, we created two awards:

Distinguished Former Student Award (DFSA)

This award recognizes graduates who distinguish themselves by reaching a significant level of accomplishment in their careers and who possess the highest standards of integrity and character that enhance the reputation of this department.

Outstanding Early Career Former Student Award (ECFSA)

This award recognizes graduates who are 15 years or less post-graduation who have made significant contributions early in their careers, in public service and in volunteer activities, and possess the highest standards of integrity and character that enhance the reputation of this department.

Qualifications

We are looking for former students who:

  • have attained prominence through their efforts in industrial engineering or other related areas of science, business, education or government and public service
  • possess stature and demonstrate abilities that merit the recognition of a proven leader in their chosen field
  • have a record of impressive accomplishments which indicate significant achievements and contributions at the local, state, national and international level
  • have a demonstrated interest in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering and Texas A&M University through activities such as guest lectures, visits to campus, development opportunities, etc.

To be eligible, these former students must:

  • possess an undergraduate or graduate degree from the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Texas A&M University.
  • (for ECFSA nominees) must be less than 15 years from the receipt of their last degree from the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Texas A&M.

Nominations

We will accept nominations from:

  • individual former students
  • individual friends of the Wm Michael Barnes '64 Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering
  • any faculty or staff member

The nomination process is open from November 1 to February 1.

Self-nominations are accepted. Posthumous nominations are also welcome.

Nomination Packet

The nomination should include a summary of the nominee that may include some of the following:

  • Significant achievements and contributions at state, national or international level
  • Recognition of efforts in industrial engineering or related areas, business, education or government and public service
  • Noteworthy accomplishments such as research, inventions, publications, volunteer service and professional business achievements
  • Involvement or demonstrated an interest in Texas A&M, the College of Engineering and the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering

Although not required, it is beneficial to have the following:

  • Biographical summary
  • Current resume
  • Letters of support

NOTE: Nominations not selected in the year they are submitted will be carried forward for two additional years, meaning they are considered for a total of three years.

Recognition
We will honor the award recipients at our department’s annual gala with appropriate recognition and mementos.
