Wind turbines and solar panels

Environmental engineers apply science and engineering principles to develop systems that protect human health and welfare and minimize the adverse effects of human activities on the environment. Environmental engineering involves providing safe, palatable and ample water supplies, reducing emissions of pollutants by developing engineered systems for treating air, water and hazardous wastes, predicting the transport and effects of contaminants through all media (air, water, land) in natural environments, managing and remediating sites contaminated by improper disposal of hazardous materials, and protecting public health through application of engineering principles.

The environmental engineering specialty plan provides students the opportunity to prepare for a career as an environmental engineer by providing students with the fundamental knowledge required to solve environmental problems as well as the opportunity to apply those fundamentals to practical applications.

Degree Specialty Information

The department also supports a separate B.S. in Environmental Engineering program apart from the specialty. Information on this stand-alone degree program can be found in the Texas A&M University Catalog.
