Howard W. Barlow

Dr. Howard Barlow established the Department of Aeronautical Engineering at Texas A&M College (University) in 1940, which has subsequently grown to one of the foremost departments of aerospace engineering in the country. In 1941, plans were completed for a large wind tunnel at Easterwood Field and initial construction was completed in 1943 under his leadership.  In 1944, Dr. Barlow was appointed Dean of Engineering and also served as Director of the Texas Engineering Experiment Station and Director of the Texas Engineering Extension Service. Barlow was a trustee and founder of the Texas A&M Research Foundation and served that organization as vice president and active executive director.
