Admission Guidelines

  • Evaluation for admission into the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering is handled differently for each category, as described below.
  • Students who have ever been assigned a sanction due to academic or behavioral misconduct at any institution of higher education will not be admitted into the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering.
  • Students classified as "Readmit" or "Post-Baccalaureate" for admissions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Decisions will be made generally following criteria similar to those for students transferring from institutions outside TAMU.

Change of Major Applicants

Requirements:

  1. A cumulative TAMU GPA of 3.0 or higher
  2. Complete a minimum of two math and two science courses with a C or better, preferably at TAMU, which apply to the degree plan (Options listed in order of department preference: PHYS 218/206, PHYS 208/207, CHEM 107/117, MATH 151, MATH 152, MATH 251)

Applicants will not be considered for admission unless each of the above requirements has been completed by the end of the semester they submit an application.

Time frame for applications:

  • Summer applications open online each March
  • Fall applications open online each June
  • Spring applications open online each October

Deadline for full consideration will be the last day of classes per the Academic Calendar.

Applications received after the deadline cannot be guaranteed full consideration. Decisions are made after a review of final grades at the end of each semester. Applicants will be contacted via email at their TAMU email address.
