Empowering Student Innovators

The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Junior Research Scholars Program at Texas A&M offers an extraordinary opportunity for talented electrical and computer engineering students to engage in cutting-edge research with experienced faculty. This program enables select juniors to dive deep into hands-on, publishable research projects while earning three credits of ECEN 491 during either the fall or spring semester of their junior year.

Scholars will collaborate in teams of 2-4 on high-impact, real-world topics, using innovative Research Testbeds developed in partnership with leading industry partners. For the fall 2025 semester, research areas will include machine learning on edge computing platforms, agricultural and industrial sensor/actuator/communication platforms, and software-defined radio communications. These areas represent the forefront of engineering innovation, providing scholars with a unique chance to contribute to technologies that will shape the future.

Our program is designed to foster teamwork and creativity, with faculty mentors guiding each team in developing research plans and executing their projects. The results of their hard work are expected to culminate in publications within one semester, giving our students a significant academic and professional edge.

To be eligible for the ECE Junior Research Scholars Program, students must:

  • Be enrolled as a full-time electrical engineering or computer engineering student.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 at the time of application and during the program.
  • Have completed ECEN 214 and ECEN 248 by the time they participate.
  • Be ready to engage in research during either the fall or spring semester of their junior year.
