Engineers who work in Automation in Civil Infrastructure are working to advance all aspects of civil infrastructure. From construction and operation and its interaction with its environment and humans, automation in civil infrastructure will harness automation, robotics, manufacturing and artificial intelligence.
Automation in Civil Infrastructure focuses on advancing all aspects of civil infrastructure, including construction and operation, and its interaction with its environment and humans by harnessing developments in automation, robotics, manufacturing and artificial intelligence (AI).
Examples of research areas in this track include, without being limited to, construction 3D printing; robotic construction and assembly; AI, robotics and augmented reality in infrastructure design, construction, maintenance and management; additive manufacturing (AM) of metamaterials for civil infrastructure applications; AM with sustainable materials, such as bio-composites; smart structures and sensing; autonomous vehicles and infrastructure; human-infrastructure interaction. Courses for students pursuing this track will be determined by the Ph.D. committee and the student to best benefit the student and their specific doctoral research.
