Subsea engineering is designed to provide the scientific and technical skills that are necessary for designing, building, installing and operating subsea (beneath the ocean's surface) equipment. This multidisciplinary field is broadly responsible for the control and direct flow of oil and gas from deep marine wells. This program is ideal for those who are in the midst of their career, but want to learn about subsea engineering and get credentials that will boost their career advancement.
In addition to broadening their engineering skills, students will learn about the economic and operational drivers that are critical to designing, selecting and configuring subsea systems. Students will also learn subsea project management and execution, including experience-based lessons.
All students in this program are exposed to courses that cover the fundamentals of subsea engineering, and may select from courses that cover subsea hardware, subsea controls and umbilical systems, subsea riser systems, and flowlines, pipelines and their installation.
The guiding premise of this degree program is to provide practical knowledge of the subsea engineering discipline from actual experiences. The courses are taught by instructors who built their qualifications through industry experience gained from working careers in the oil and gas industry. These professors of practice had successful careers of their own prior to becoming instructors.
The courses and course structure are the same for Distance Learning as for in-class courses. The classes are offered both synchronously (live classroom lectures) and asynchronously (recorded lectures) to accommodate student work schedules.
Students in a non-degree-seeking (NDS) post-baccalaureate status may be permitted to enroll in subsea courses. Please contact the director of the Subsea program for more information.
Subsea Engineering has helped me build upon my previous knowledge while also learning new skills. This program has not only helped me build my technical knowledge but also helped inculcate the soft skills required for working in the industry.
