These awards are bestowed by the Department of Aerospace Engineering to recognize the accomplishments of outstanding alumni, champion the aerospace engineering profession, create a sense of community/camaraderie within the department, and facilitate interaction/continuity with the student body and the department's alumni and corporate friends.

Nomination Categories and Criteria for Selection

  • Outstanding Young Aerospace Engineer
    These members must be alumni under the age of 40 and have shown outstanding work in their field, plus be promising leaders for the future. They must have a strong commitment and interest in the University and the Department of Aerospace Engineering.
  • Outstanding Aerospace Engineer
    These members must be age 40 or older and have demonstrated outstanding professional achievement, community service, and service to the University and the Department of Aerospace Engineering.
  • Distinguished Aerospace Engineering Alumni
    Members in this category are alumni who are retired or near-retirement with outstanding career records. This award recognizes sustained and meritorious contributions to engineering and engineering management.
  • Aerospace Engineering Honorary Engineering Award
    Recipients of this award are non-Texas A&M Aerospace Engineering alumni who have made major contributions to the engineering profession and whose support of the Department of Aerospace Engineering merits recognition.

Selection, Award, and Presentation

The department typically selects three to five recipients; however, there is not a minimum number of selections awarded. If no deserving nominations are received, they may choose to make no award recommendations. Nominees for an award in any given year will not be considered in any subsequent year unless re-nominated.

The award will consist of a brief citation/certificate/plaque attesting to the individual's accomplishments. Awards will be presented to recipients at a special ceremony. Awards will not be presented in absentia except for medical reasons or if the recipient is physically unable to be present at the ceremony.

Nomination Information Requirements

Complete nomination information may be submitted in one of two ways: electronically using the web-based form or providing the information listed below and returning it to the address shown below. Nominations should include:

  • Full name, title, address, email address, and telephone number of the nominee
  • Current job description
  • Year(s) of graduation
  • Category being nominated for
  • A maximum 2-page impact statement supporting the excellence characteristics sought for a particular award. As applicable, explain in plain English the biggest technical, leadership, and service accomplishments of the candidate during their careers. Make sure to explain the impact of the candidate's contributions to their technical field, company or institution, or the community. As applicable, highlight the service contributions of the applicant to Texas A&M and the aerospace engineering department.
  • A brief citation of 75 words or less that describes the nominee's accomplishments, contributions, etc.
  • A 2-page current vita / résumé
