Cutting-Edge Research

Researchers in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering develop and apply electrical and information technologies and sciences for the benefit of humanity. We are currently highlighting advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning, including assessing the fundamental limits of these algorithms and better understanding how their performance is affected by various parameters. Our researchers are pushing the boundaries of various focus areas as they work to increase security even as technology continues to evolve.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning enable the solution of complex problems by extracting information from patterns present in data. Problems range from image classification and system optimization and control to biological molecules and materials synthesis.

Power systems and smart grids represent the backbone of civil society. Here at Texas A&M, our department is pushing the research and educational boundaries to design a more resilient, cleaner, affordable electricity service that will power economies for the 21st century.

Research conducted in the department affects peoples’ lives. Our faculty engages in research that impacts healthcare, wireless network systems, cybersecurity, next-generation computing, quantum sensing and information systems, and renewable energy and electric power generation. Machine learning and artificial intelligence are infused in most of our research, often done in collaboration with industry, national laboratories, and others across the globe.
