Structural/Maritime Intern | HDR Engineering, Inc. | Paid Internship | Corpus Christi, TX | Application deadline : 8/19/17 | Internship dates: 9/5/17 - 12/15/17

  • HDR is seeking a qualified individual to join a group of experts in the Ports and Maritime group as a Project Engineer-in-Training. This individual will participate with teams to design small to large projects (construction values typically from $500K to $100M) and primary focus will be on geotechnical, structural and general civil design elements of projects. Primary responsibility will involve performing design tasks on projects ranging from limited complexity and scope to those including complex features.
    • Typical projects include the design of: steel hose towers, deep water bulkhead walls (anchored, combi-wall, cantilevered, etc.), reinforced concrete jetty platforms, analyses of ship mooring structures, line tensioning calculations, elevated pedestrian walkways and access systems, geometrical studies of ship/equipment operational envelopes, etc.
    • Efforts will be guided by senior and mid-level engineers and management.
    • Duties will include:
      • Performing design tasks to clearly illustrate constructible/practical plans, details and technical specifications
      • Construction field observations to verify general conformance with contract documents
      • Production of documents (studies/reports, designs, details, sketches, opinions of costs)
      • Other responsibilities will include active participation in a technical organization(s) relative to the industry. Assistance (coauthoring) in publication of technical articles will be a secondary expectation of this role.
  • The ideal candidate will have an internship history and/or design experience with heavy industrial and ports and maritime related projects along with construction observation or administration experience and/or evidence of other mechanical aptitude.
