Mannan to deliver keynote at inaugural process control conference

Regents Professor M. Sam Mannan, holder of the Mike O'Connor Chair I in the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University, will deliver a keynote address at the inaugural Process Control & Instrumentation (PC&I) conference, sponsored by Hydrocarbon Processing.

Mannan, who is director of the Mary Kay O'Connor Process Safety Center, is slated to discuss emerging trends in safety for the refining and petrochemical industry at the conference, which is scheduled to take place March 9-10 in Galveston, Texas.

PC&I is a new forum focused on process control and monitoring systems applied at refineries and petrochemical facilities and intended for project, process and maintenance engineers involved in the design and operation of refineries and petrochemical plants. In addition, to technical presentations, PC&I will feature sponsored exhibitions to further discuss new technologies and equipment available for improving control and safety systems of plant operations.

A professional engineer and certified safety professional, Mannan is a fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration and National Fire Protection Association. In addition to his many professional honors and achievements, Mannan has served as a consultant to numerous entities in both the academic and private sectors, including the Columbia Accident Investigation Board.
