Machine Shop

 

The Department of Mechanical Engineering’s machine shop includes manual lathes, manual mills, vertical and horizontal band saws and welding equipment. It features a HAAS CNC TL-2 lathe, HAAS CNC SL-10 lathe and a HAAS CNC Mini Mill.

We are capable of manufacturing just about anything that you need, and we offer consultation if you have any questions about how or if your design can be manufactured.

Authorized users: College of Engineering undergraduate and graduate students who have taken and passed the required training

The machine shop is on a first come, first served basis. Each person using the machine shop is required to present their university ID and must have completed the training. Proof of training must either be on file in the machine shop or new users must bring printed transcripts with them.)

Prior to your first visit:

1. Pass both required training courses through TrainTraq (print transcripts and bring them with you)

    • Course 811015: TEES Hazard Awareness in Engineering Research
    • Course 811013: TEES Shop & Tool Training Course

2. Review Safety Rules & Standards

For work to be done by the machine shop:

  1. Print and complete a Work Order Request (Form must have student's faculty adviser's signature.)
  2. Provide detailed, dimensioned drawings; materials to be used; and quantities.
  3. Check your job status (updated each Monday)
