 Application Requirements

  1. EngineeringCAS online application: when searching for our program applications, use the filter to select Texas A&M University under the institution section. Then, type “mechanical engineering” into the search bar. You may narrow your search further by program level (masters or doctorate). This is the quickest way to find the appropriate application.
  2. Transcripts: Unofficial transcripts are acceptable for application review purposes. Any applicant who provides unofficial transcripts and is admitted will be required to submit official transcripts.
    • Once all institutions attended have been entered in the Academic History: Colleges Attended section of the application, upload unofficial copies of all transcripts. International applicants do not need to request a WES evaluation.
  3. Standardized Tests: GRE scores are not required. However, if a student has GRE scores and wants to include them in their application, the scores will be considered in the review process. Applicants with a lower GPA or from a school that Texas A&M may not be familiar with may benefit from providing strong GRE scores.
  4. GPA Entry: Applicants should report their GPA in the Academic History: GPA Entries section of the application. GPAs should be entered as they are calculated at your institution. Do not convert your GPA to a 4-point scale.
  5. Resume or CV: A resume or CV should be uploaded in the Supporting Information: Documents section of the application. A resume or CV should concisely communicate any relevant professional experience (internships or full-time employment); research experience; professional service (participation and/or leadership in professional organizations and STEM outreach programs, teaching/mentoring experience, etc.); publications, conference presentations, or other professional works; and awards and honors.
  6. Statement of Purpose: Applicants should write a 1-1 ½ page statement of purpose explaining their interest in the selected graduate program at Texas A&M and how this degree will help the student achieve their career goals. Applicants pursuing a research-based graduate program should also explain their general research interests and mention any faculty whose work they are interested in. This will be uploaded in the Program Materials: Documents section of the application.
  7. Proof of English Proficiency (international applicants only): To be eligible for admission to a graduate or professional program at Texas A&M University, international applicants are required to meet English language proficiency (ELP) standards provided in the form of Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test scores. To qualify for graduate assistantships with direct or support instructional responsibilities, the State of Texas also requires that international graduate students meet ELP standards beyond those required for admission. View the English Language Proficiency website for more information.
  8. Letters of Recommendation: Applicants must provide contact information for a minimum of 3 recommenders in the Program Materials: Recommendations section of the application. Each recommender should have intimate knowledge of the applicant’s most advanced levels of academic and technical achievement. Once the recommendation request is saved, an automated email will be sent to the recommender on your behalf. Emailed recommendations will not be accepted.
