The Wm Michael Barnes '64 Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering honors diversity, equity, and the inclusion of differing prospectives. We strive to create and preserve a welcoming, inclusive learning environment, and promote access and opportunities in all areas.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a safe and inclusive environment for our students, staff and faculty. We aim to be a department that continually engages in learning from individuals, and understanding the experiences of marginalized groups. We strive to actively support inclusion and development, and elect to take tangible steps to stimulate introspection and analysis of the behavior and views we hold in regards to diversity.

More specifically, we aim to bringing awareness to, and actively counter the detrimental effects of prejudice, discrimination, and all other forms of acrimony directed at individuals or groups based on membership and identity.

Diversity is important to us because...

Recognizing and learning from others with different backgrounds, cultures, and viewpoints helps us negate stereotypes and unnecessary personal biases and bolsters systematic fair treatment of all individuals.

Inclusion is important to us because...

Fostering a cognizant and respectful culture allows all individuals to feel like they belong and allows us to build relationships spanning across viewpoints, thus strengthening our environment and empowering our community.
