Research Internship - India

Excursions/Field Trips: Participate on a 10-week research internship program at one of the finest engineering institutes in the world – India Institute of Technology (IIT). We have internship positions in IIT Kanpur, IIT Gandhinagar, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Kharagpur. During the 10-week research internship, students will be engaged in a research project under the guidance of Dr. Kinra and a faculty member at the chosen IIT, while being fully emerged in the culture and research laboratories of the IIT.

About IITs

The different Indian Institute of Technology or the IITs are one of the finest engineering institutes in the world. The first IIT was founded in 1960 by a consortium of nine leading American universities including MIT, Caltech, Princeton and Stanford. Over the years new IITs have been created at par with the research and intellectual standards laid down by the consortium in 1960.

Location Information

IIT Kanpur, India - The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur is one of the finest engineering institutes in the world. Kanpur is a mere five hours away from the capital New Delhi, and two hours from Taj Mahal. It is quite convenient to visit such tourist attractions as New Delhi, Bombay, Amritsar, Jaipur, Khajuraho, etc.

IIT Gandhinagar, India - Gandhinagar is the capital of the state of Gujarat, the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhinagar lies on the west bank of the Sabarmati River, and is well connected to Mumbai, the financial capital of India and Delhi, the political capital. Gujarat is a popular tourist destination and is famous for its white sand desert, tiger reserves, architectural wonders and building of historical importance related to Mahatma Gandhi.

IIT Hyderabad, India - Hyderabad is the capital of the southern Indian state of Telangana. Hyderabad is a historical city offering a rich mix of cultures that developed over the time. Hyderabad was a princely state hence it has beautiful palaces, temples, mosques, diverse population etc. Hyderabad is also very popular for authentic Indian food. Other popular tourist attractions like Kerala, Anantagiri Hills, many forts are all within reach from Hyderabad.

IIT Kharagpur, India - Kharagpur is an important industrial city in Paschim Medinipur district of West Bengal, India. It is multi-cultural and cosmopolitan city. The first Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), a group of Institutes of National Importance, was founded in Kharagpur as early as in May 1950.

Eligibility & Requirements

Admission to this program is competitive and availability is limited. Applications will be evaluated on Feb. 1, 2016. Evaluation will be based on academic performance, application package materials, and program goals. Only complete applications that meet all minimum admissions criteria will be accepted for evaluation.

Students who desire to study abroad in India must have:

  • Minimum of 2.5 GPA
  • Good academic standing with university
  • Attendance at ALL program specific orientations
  • Approval of the professor
  • Sophomore, Junior or Senior (Seniors graduating in the summer are not eligible)

Foreign Language Requirement

None! All courses are taught in English by Texas A&M University Faculty.

The college of engineering is offering scholarship for selected student who has a 2.5 or higher GPA at time of application. There is no need to apply for the engineering scholarship, it is automatic if students meet all of the requirements listed below:

  • Have a 2.5 or higher GPA at time of application
  • Satisfy the course requirements for admission
  • Be admitted and confirmed by Feb. 15, 2018
  • Required to attend all Study Abroad Programs Office (SAPO) and College of Engineering pre-trip orientations
  • Submit requested documents by deadlines
