Aerospace Engineering - India

Course description: Structural design considerations, mechanics of structures, introduction to elasticity, constitution of materials, and analysis of typical aerospace structures in bending, extension, torsion and shear. The technical and cultural visits together with the engagement of Indian students will contribute to the students’ global competency development and preparedness to join the global engineering industry.

Excursions and Field Trips: In addition to taking a course, the purpose of this program is intense exposure of the student to the rich and diverse culture and history of India. Accordingly, the students will spend a total of 20 days on field trips. Under the guidance of Dr. Kinra and with the help of a local travel agent, students will plan a number of trips depending on their individual interests.

Some of the trips include: one-day trip to Lucknow for shopping and seeing historical monuments; overnight trip to Agra to see the Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri and the Red Fort; three-day trip to Allahabad and Varanasi; two-day trip to see the ancient temples of Khajuraho; two-day trip from Delhi to Amritsar to see the Golden Temple; four-day trip to Rajasthan Jaipur (the pink city), Udaipur and Bandhavgarh (the tiger preserve of India); one-week trip of Nepal (mountains of Himalaya); two-day trip to Mumbai (Bombay); three-day trip to the capitol Delhi to see Quatab Minar, Red Fort, Jama Masjid and the Humayun tomb; one week trip to Kerala: Cochin, Kumarakom (backwaters), Thekkady (wildlife and tiger preserve), Munnar (summer resort at 5,000 feet, Misty Mountains), Alleppy (house boat) and Travancore; a two-day trip to Bangalore, the Silicon Valley of India.

    • Dates: to be announced
    • Optional: One extra week traveling around India with suggestions by Dr. Kinra. Logistical arrangements and cost of the extra week not included in the program. The dates above do not reflect this optional travel week.

Prerequisite: AERO 214

ENGR 485/AERO 485: Optional. Consultation with faculty is required.

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur is one of the finest engineering institutes in the world.
