Mission Statement

This mission of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Engineering Department is threefold

  • To create new knowledge and challenge young minds by participation in the process of discovery and invention;
  • To educate electrical and computer engineers with a solid background of fundamentals, stretching their imagination, and preparing them for an exciting future;
  • To serve the society through research, education, and outreach activities

Program Educational Objectives

The educational objectives of the Electrical Engineering program are to produce graduates whose expected accomplishments within two to five years of graduation are:

  1. Graduates who choose to pursue a career in industry or government will become productive and valuable engineers.
  2. Graduates who choose to pursue advanced degrees will be able to gain admission to graduate programs and succeed in top graduate programs.
  3. In keeping with the legacy of an Aggie Engineer, graduates will be successful in attaining positions of leadership in their professional careers.

Student Outcomes

The student outcomes that prepare graduates to attain the program educational objectives are:

Graduates will have an ability to apply knowledge of basic mathematics and science to solve electrical engineering problems.

  • (a) Graduates will have an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data.
  • (b) Graduates will have an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability.
  • (c) Graduates will have an ability to function on multidisciplinary teams.
  • (d) Graduates will have an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems.
  • (e) Graduates will have an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility.
  • (f) Graduates will have an ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • (g) Graduates will have the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context.
  • (h) Graduates will have recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning.
  • (i) Graduates will have knowledge of contemporary issues as they relate to electrical engineering practice.
  • (j) Graduates will have an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
