The summary should be the last section of the report you write; it must stand alone and should not exceed 1-1/2 pages in length. The summary briefly answers questions each reader will need you to answer:

  • What is this document?
  • Why am I receiving it?
  • What am I supposed to do with it or with the information it gives me?

For CHEN 414 or 433, your summary must

  1. identify the specific goal(s) of the laboratory work,
  2. provide a brief summary of the procedures used, and
  3. state results and your analysis of them as they pertain to the reader.

When describing what you accomplished, use past tense verbs.
