The letter accompanying your report should adhere to standard business letter format (place return address before the date line; use a colon after the salutation; single-space paragraphs) and include the following information:

  • First paragraph: Present the report to the laboratory instructor; identify the group number, class section, and date of submission. You should also include an executive summary regarding the important findings, conclusions, and recommendations along with key details.
  • Middle paragraph(s): Briefly discuss your experiment, i.e., the pertinent sections of the report or definite results that are particularly important.
  • Final paragraph: Acknowledge individual responsibilities and provide appropriate closing remarks.

Be sure that the group leader signs this letter.

Remember: Do not give the letter a page number, nor show it in the Table of Contents.
