The Department of Biomedical Engineering values and honors diverse experiences and perspectives, strives to create welcoming and respectful learning environments and promotes access and opportunity in the following areas:

Respect and Equity: Create deliberate processes to recognize, achieve, and sustain racial equity, promote systematic fair treatment of all individuals, actively remove barriers that may exist for marginalized groups. The goal is to achieve equal access to opportunity.

Diversity: Recognize, promote and learn from experiences from a multitude of cultures and experiences, encompassing differences in race, ethnicity, age, gender and gender identity, language, religion, sexual orientation, ability or disability, and socioeconomic status.

Inclusion: Create an awareness and a culture that is respectful and ensure all individuals feel they belong.

To this end, we have formed the Racial Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (REDI) Committee with the following charter:

  • To create and sustain a community that promotes recognition, advocacy and allyship for REDI.
  • To organize activities that promote awareness for REDI within the department at all levels.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering does not tolerate hateful discourse and behavior. To help us to respond to such occurrences, we would appreciate individuals using the StopHate online report form to report hate/bias incidents. You have the option to fill in your contact information or submit the report anonymously.
