Mail Handler Safety and Anthrax Awareness

Howdy to the Aggie Engineering Community:

Recent tragic events have alerted us to potential threats of Bioterrorism, and the need to increase our awareness and our ability to protect ourselves.By using reasonable precautions and common sense, we can all help prevent unnecessary exposures, as well as reduce fear and stress.

The mission of our Office of Engineering Safety is to ensure a safe & healthful environment for scholarship and research in the Engineering Program. To that end, the following materials are provided to aid in increasing your awareness of the hazards and to familiarize you with the tools & techniques to prevent potential exposure.

This program is designed to answer basic questions while also dispelling excess fears. You will learn the basic forms of anthrax, how it is transmitted, and how to protect yourself from exposure. You will also learn how to safely handle the mail, how to identify suspicious letters and parcels, how to respond when a suspicious item is discovered, and how to contact the appropriate emergency responders.

The information contained herein is based on guidelines available from CDC, USPS, FBI, FEMA, NDPO, and the Texas Department of Health (TDH).
