How do I log in to PETE computers?


  • Fill out a Technology and Software Access Agreement form (found at IT helpdesk in RICH 901).
  • Read the form carefully and follow the described rules accordingly!
  • Have form approved by an undergraduate advisor or Gail Krueger in RICH 501R if you are an undergraduate student, or your graduate advisor if you are a graduate student.
  • Turn in your signed form to IT helpdesk in RICH 901.
  • Use your NetID for access. 

How do I access the PETE computer labs?


No food or drink is allowed in PETE computer labs. Help us maintain departmental computer facilities by cleaning up after yourself. After all, this is your second home.


How do I add a printer?


  • You are connected to PETE network printers when you log into any department computer.
  • The printers are available based on your status (Example: undergraduate students can only print to computer lab printers).
  • You can see all available printers by clicking Start | Devices & Printers once you log in.
  • If you are not connected to an available lab printer, navigate to S:\Printers and run AddPrint_Labs.bat to automatically install all the lab printers. 
  • If you are a graduate student and cannot access your office printer, contact the IT helpdesk in RICH 901, or send an email to support@pe.tamu.edu.

Note: You can set your default printer by right clicking on a printer and selecting Set as Default Printer.


How many pages can I print?



How do I access my files when logged in to the department?


  • Once you log in, your Desktop and My Documents folders will be on your H:\ (home)
  • Your data will follow your log in from one computer to another through automatic connection to the S:\ drives (Example: professors publish class files on S:\Classes\(class), Grad students can share files with advisors or research groups on S:\Faculty_Groups\(advisor) )

Where do I find info about the university TAMU e-mail account?


As a student of Texas A&M, you get a University wide TAMU e-mail account. This e-mail address is setup during your new student conference and ends in @tamu.edu. You can check this account through the web.

You have the option of forwarding your @tamu.edu e-mail to another e-mail address. 

  • Go here,
  • click on Login,
  • Authenticate with your NetID and password,
  • click on Email Settings at the top (once on the settings page, you can change your forwarding options)

Your TAMU address is supported by CIS (Computing & Information Services). The CIS Help Desk is accessible 24-hours a day at (979) 845-8300.
