Biscontin appointed to Zachry Professorship
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Dr. Giovanna Biscontin of The Zachry Department of Civil Engineering has been appointed to the Zachry Career Development Professorship II.
Biscontin is an associate professor of geotechnical engineering and her research int
erests include dynamic soil responses, earthquake engineering, seismic slope stability, experimental methods for characterizing soil behavior, and numerical methods and modeling in geomechanics. She received her undergraduate degree in civil engineering from the University of Padova in Italy, and her master’s degree and doctorate in geotechnical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. Biscontin joined the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering in 2002.
The endowment is one of two Zachry Professorships for Career Development in Civil Engineering established in 2005 by the Zachry Foundation in San Antonio. The purpose of these developmental professorships is to develop and retain high performing mid-career faculty working in the area of design and construction integration. Distributions from the fund may be used to support Biscontin’s teaching, research, service and professional development.
