Dr. Ali Mostafavi, assistant professor in the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering at Texas A&M University, was awarded an Early-Career Research Fellowship from the National Academies’ Gulf Research Program (GRP).
The Early-Career Research Fellowship recognizes professionals at the critical pretenure stage of their careers for exceptional leadership, past performance, and potential for future contributions to improving health and well-being in coastal communities.
Mostafavi’s interdisciplinary research is positioned at the intersection of infrastructure engineering, complex networks science and community resilience. His research investigates the network dynamics of communities in response to stressors such as sea level rise and natural disasters through the use of systems analytics and complex network models. His work creates complex system models of coastal communities in order to devise the actionable science required for robust adaptation planning under deep uncertainty. He works closely with community partners to extend the broader impacts of his research.
Mostafavi is a faculty researcher at the Center for Infrastructure Renewal and the Institute for Sustainable Communities at Texas A&M. He has published more than 25 peer-reviewed international journal papers and has delivered more than 60 national/international conference presentations and invited talks.
