The Business Management Course (BMC), sponsored by Halliburton, is a joint effort between the college of engineering and the Center for Executive Development in the Mays Business School. Since the program’s inception, almost 600 students have received their certificate. The program provides students an opportunity to gain knowledge and skills associated with business to complement their technical engineering skillset. It covers principles of accounting, finance, marketing, supply chain management and communications through 80 hours of instruction.

In addition to instruction, program participants are required to collaborate on team projects where they apply their newly gained skills to innovative ideas. The program concludes with team project presentations to a panel composed of faculty and Halliburton engineers.

“We recognize so much value in pairing an engineering student’s technical knowledge with the business acumen received from the Business Management Course,” said Alicia Villarreal, university affairs - Southern & GOM region lead for Halliburton. “Not only does this program give engineering students the foundation of business that is essential to a corporate environment, but it also puts the BMC students a step up above the rest by combining these two skillsets.”

Students who complete the course are awarded a certificate from the Mays Business School’s Center for Executive Development.
