Bruce Hamilton, a Texas A&M University alumni and a member of the Defense Nuclear Securities Safety Board (DNFSB), delivered a seminar to the students and faculty of the Department of Nuclear Engineering at Texas A&M. Hamilton’s seminar provided insight on the development of nuclear safety oversight and regulation in the United States, focused primarily on the historical origins of the DNFSB. Hamilton is from Dallas, and was appointed a member of the DNSFB on Aug. 26, 2015. He is a veteran of more than three decades in the nuclear energy field. Prior to his appointment to the board, he was the president of a nuclear fuel procurement company, and prior to that he was an engineering director at a commercial nuclear power plant where he held a Nuclear Regulatory Commission senior reactor operator’s license. As a U.S. Navy officer, Hamilton supervised nuclear operations in six warships, commanded a seventh, and served as the reactor officer for the mid-life refueling overhaul of an aircraft carrier. A registered professional engineer, Hamilton’s academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M, a Master of Arts from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School and a Ph.D. from The Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy.
