Yashwant Prakash Vyas, a senior in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University, has received numerous awards and honors for his academic and leadership roles.
Vyas participated in the 9th Annual Brazos Valley World Fest where he won the culture display booth competition for the second year in a row. The festival promotes international diversity and heritage by connecting international students, faculty and staff with the community. Vyas’ booth, “World Cultures Part III: A Kaleidoscope of Cultures,” is based on the study of world cultures, arts, religions and cultural articles from around the world. Vyas said the most important learning outcome from his booth is that humans have more in common than they do differences. Vyas also offers diversity training called "World Cultures — What We Have In Common," to student organizations, schools and community centers.
Vyas was also inducted into The National Society of Leadership and Success. The society is the nation’s largest leadership honor society with 491 chapters and 537,370 members nationwide. Students are selected by their college for membership based on either academic standing or leadership potential. Candidacy is a nationally recognized achievement of honorable distinction.
In addition to induction, Vyas was also awarded the National Engaged Leader award from the society. This award is given to inducted members who go above and beyond membership requirements. Vyas participated in community service and completed the training required for the award.
During his time at Texas A&M, Vyas has belonged to numerous student organizations, such as the International Student Association, the Student Government Association Diversity Commission, the India Association, Aggie Replant, the Texas A&M UNICEF Chapter, the Aggie Orientation Leaders Program and many more. He also works as an Ask Us Aggie worker in the library and offers diversity training to student organizations, schools and community centers.
