Ahad Esmaeilian, Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University, is the recipient of the 2016 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Industry Applications Society (IAS) Electrical Safety Prevention through Design Student Engineering Education Initiative Award.
The IEEE IAS student program awards talented and promising students who have a passion for electrical safety by subsidizing travel, lodging and registration for participation in the IEEE IAS Electrical Safety Workshop. Being accepted as a recipient is an honor and provides an opportunity to uniquely participate in the workings that shape the future of the electrical safety culture.
Esmaeilian, who is a research assistant for Dr. Mladen Kezunovic, will present "Impact of Major Power Grid Blackouts Prevention on Electrical Safety," at the Electric Safety Workshop in March.
Esmaeilian received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Tehran in 2009 and 2011, respectively, both in electrical engineering. His research interests include power system protection, smart-grid applications, wide area monitoring and control.
He also received the ConocoPhillips Graduate Fellowship earlier this year. The Electrical Safety Workshop is dedicated to changing the electrical safety culture. Its mission is to accelerate application of breakthrough improvements in human factors, technology and managing systems that reduce risk of electrical injuries; stimulate innovation in overcoming barriers and change; and advance the electrical safety culture to enable sustainable improvements in prevention of electrical accidents and injuries.
