Dr. Patrick ShambergerDr. Patrick Shamberger, assistant professor and undergraduate degree program director in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University, was selected to attend the National Academy of Engineering’s (NAE) Frontiers of Engineering Education Symposium. The two-and-a-half-day symposium will be held Oct. 25-28 at the National Academies’ Beckman Center in Irvine, California.

M. Katherine Banks, vice chancellor and dean of Texas A&M Engineering nominated Shamberger, who was selected by NAE through a competitive selection process.

"This workshop allows me to share education innovations that we have developed here at Texas A&M, as well as to integrate some of the forward thinking approaches developed across the nation into our graduate and undergraduate curricula,” said Shamberger.

A faculty member since 2013, Shamberger received his Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from the University of Washington. His research interests include science and engineering of phase transitions, functional materials, thermal energy storage, transport, and conversion. He is actively involved in undergraduate science and engineering education and mentoring.

The symposium brings together some of the nation’s most engaged engineering educators to discuss pioneering technical work and leading edge research in various engineering fields and industry sectors.

Established in 1964, the NAE seeks to advance the well being of the nation by promoting a vibrant engineering profession and by marshaling the expertise and insights of eminent engineers to provide independent advice to the federal government on matters involving engineering and technology.
