The GAIFAC provides recommendations to the Texas Legislature on the formulas that determine funding allocation to public higher education institutions in Texas. According to the THECB, this funding supports faculty salaries, departmental operating expenses and research enhancement, among other university services.

In this six-year appointment, Malavé will be the sole faculty member on the committee. Other members of the committee include representatives, often administrators, from various Texas public institutions.

“It is important to have a faculty voice on the committee, and we are pleased Dr. Malavé was appointed to represent that voice,” said Joe Pettibon, associate vice president for academic services at Texas A&M and primary liaison with the THECB.

“I am honored to be appointed to the committee,” said Malavé. “As a faculty member, I hope I can contribute a unique and valuable perspective.”
