UnknownHalliburton has given a gift of $5 million to the Dwight Look College of Engineering at Texas A&M University to establish the Halliburton Engineering Global Program, which will provide students with international experiences so that they are better prepared to work and succeed in a changing global economy. The new program will include faculty-led study abroad programs, industrial internship experiences overseas and research experiences at overseas academic institutions and laboratories.

The Halliburton Engineering Global Program provides students with unique opportunities to experience and learn engineering and business practices of different societies in the context of local culture and tradition. Students also have the opportunity to learn to collaborate and compete with the global talent with which they will interact over the next several decades of their careers.

“Programs such as these are very important in developing the engineer of the future,” said Dr. M. Katherine Banks, vice chancellor and dean of Texas A&M Engineering. “We live in a global marketplace and international experiences not only provide our students with a better understanding of our world, but allow students to obtain a professional experience abroad while gaining the cultural sensitivity needed for success internationally.

“The college of engineering’s goal is to more than double the number of engineering students (from 700 to 2,000 per year) who participate in a global engineering experience. This gift will help us reach this goal,” Banks said.

Halliburton has a long-standing relationship with Texas A&M, and has provided support for many educational initiatives for the College of Engineering, the College of Science and the Mays Business School. The company also has a long history of commitment and support to higher education.

“Engineers are critical to Halliburton’s success, and we see our contribution to Texas A&M’s global engineering program as an investment in the next generation of potential employees,” said Jeff Miller, president of Halliburton. “We have been, and remain, committed to higher education in spite of the current difficult market conditions.”
