Dr. Yossef Elabd, professor in the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University, has received a 2015 Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP) grant, funded by the Department of Defense.

The title of the study: Small-Angle X-ray Scattering for Nanostructured Polymers Research and Education.

“The requested SAXS system will have a significant impact on advancing this research with a detailed understanding of morphology and properties at the nanometer scale,” said Elabd. “The proposed instrument will also have a strong educational impact, which will build on existing strengths of Texas A&M in graduate, post-graduate, and undergraduate research, as well as interaction with students and teachers at the K through 12 level.”

Elabd is one of 225 university researchers across 111 academic institutions to receive the award. Of the $67.8 million in total program funding, Elabd's portion is close to $400,000.
