Five of a kind

Five faculty members from the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering at Texas A&M University were recognized by the Dwight Look College of Engineering at an awards banquet May 6 for honors they have recently received. 

Dr. Jodie Lutkenhaus, associate professor and holder of the William and Ruth Neely Faculty Fellowship, received the George Armistead, Jr. ’23 Faculty Excellence Teaching Award for the second time. "My approach to teaching is to make the material as interesting as possible. I also believe that all the students deserve a fair chance in the course, so I try to help any who are weak in a particular area to bring them up to speed," said Lutkenhaus. 

Dr. Yue Kuo, professor and holder of the Dow Professorship, received the TEES Faculty Fellows Award. “It is very special to to be honored for my research and I wish to continue expanding my field of study so the work can bear on greater initiatives in the future,” said Kuo. 

Dr. Victor Ugaz, professor and holder of the Charles D. Holland ’53 Professorship, received the Charles Crawford Distinguished Service Award. "It is an incredible inspiration to work at a place like Texas A&M where the students and faculty are so committed to service, both in their profession and in the community," said Ugaz.

Dr. Ray Mentzer, senior lecturer, was honored with the Instructional Faculty Teaching Award. "I'm most honored to receive this recognition for teaching. During my seven years at A&M I have strived to be an effective educator attending regular meetings of the Center for Teaching Excellence, and I'm most pleased to be recognized by my fellow teachers and students."

Dr. Zhengdong Cheng, associate professor, received the William Keeler Memorial Award. "The opportunity to contribute toward the ever-advancing state of chemical engineering at Texas A&M is a wonder and a passion for myself and others in this discipline. To see my research group collaborate in this way makes the award all the more meaningful," said Cheng.
