He is among three College of Engineering faculty members receiving the award this year for his significant contributions to the college during the past five years.

Furuta is a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). He has been the CSE department's adviser to computer science and computer engineering undergraduates since 2006 and was a member of the Computer Engineering Curriculum Coordination Committee from 2006-2011. He also was coordinator of the Engineering Projects in Community Service course from 2009 to 2014 and has served on a number of college committees during that time. These include both the CSE department's and the college's Promotion and Tenure committees, a College of Engineering Grievance Committee (2009-2010), and the college's Engineering Scholars Program from 2007-2012 and again from 2013 to the present.

This is the second time he has received the Crawford Service Award. His many honors include being named ACM Senior Member, IEEE Senior Member, TEES Fellow, and ACM Distinguished Engineer.

"Dr. Furuta's exceptional service record has resulted in great visibility for the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the Dwight Look College of Engineering, and Texas A&M University," said Dr. Dilma Da Silva, department head and holder of the Ford Motor Company Design Professorship II.

Furuta will receive a certificate and monetary award at a faculty recognition banquet to be held on May 6.
