Image of Col. McCarthyAn endowed scholarship in memory of Colonel Edmond R. McCarthy ’66, USAF (Ret.)  has been established for full-time students in good standing pursuing an undergraduate degree in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University. It will give talented students an educational experience that will provide a foundation for their future and contributions in the world.

The Col. Edmond R. McCarthy, USAF (Ret.) ’66 (M.S.), ’74 (Ph.D.) Scholarship will assist the department in attracting, rewarding, and retaining outstanding students. Col. McCarthy was a great example of such a student with his selfless service to this nation, his community, and to Texas A&M University. He earned his master’s in mathematics and doctoral degree in computer science from Texas A&M and was most proud of his degree in computer science.

During part of his 30 years of distinguished service in the United States Air Force, Col. McCarthy taught English, computing science and computer literacy to Vietnamese immigrants seeking Residentship and employment opportunities in America post-Viet Nam War. Col. McCarthy died at his home in San Antonio, Texas on July 19, 2012.
