Dr. Edward Dougherty in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University was named to Thomson Reuters’ list of “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds: 2014.” Dougherty, the Robert M. Kennedy ’26 Chair Professor in the department, was honored in the Computer Science Category.
The list includes more than 3,200 scientists around the world who have published the highest number of articles that are cited the most frequently by other researchers.
The list was compiled from two separate Thomson Reuters studies analyzed for publication and citation data from 21 broad fields of study, ranging from chemistry to social sciences.
Dougherty, an IEEE Fellow, is considered a pioneer in the study of translational genomics via the use of engineering techniques such as signal processing, pattern recognition and control theory. He is the director of the Genomic Signal Processing Lab at Texas A&M. He also has served as director of the Computational Biology Division of the Translational Genomics Research Institute and as interim director of the Computational Biology and Bioinformatics Program of the Greehey Children's Cancer Research Institute of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Other honors include being named a Distinguished Professor and a Texas Engineering Experiment Station (TEES) Fellow, both at Texas A&M. He is author of 16 books and more than 300 journal publications.
