YkDr. M. Katherine Banks, vice chancellor and dean of engineering, has appointed Dr. Yong-Joe Kim the Pioneer Natural Resources Faculty Fellow II in Mechanical Engineering in recognition of his many accomplishments and future potential. The endowed faculty fellowship appointment was effective June 1.

Kim is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He joined the Texas A&M engineering faculty in September 2009. He received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 2003. He earned his master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, and his bachelor’s degree in mechanical design and production engineering from Chung-Ang University.

Kim’s research interests include acoustics and applied signal processing; nonlinear acoustics; biomedical acoustics; acoustical/biological field visualization based on array measurements; acoustophoresis in microfluidic devices; acoustics in oil/gas industry; noise and vibration control; structural health monitoring based on array signal processing; vibro-acoustic optimization of composite shell structures; computational mechanics; computational aeroacoustics analysis (CAA), finite element analysis (FEA); boundary element analysis (BEA); and statistical energy analysis (SEA).
