Texas A&M University recently recognized 62 engineering students who earned their business management certificates.

The business management certificate program is a joint program between the Dwight Look College of Engineering and Mays Business School. The program was established in 2005 to provide engineering students with a highly intensive program focused on vital business competencies in the areas of accounting, finance, management and marketing. The annual program is composed of a three-week, intensive 120-hour course during May. Students attend class from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Students who complete the course are awarded a business management certificate from Mays Business School Center for Executive Development. The program is highly competitive. More than 150 students applied for the certificate program this year.

Students provided comments on the benefits of the program, such as, “Overall the program was fantastic. The course definitely pushed me closer to wanting to pursue an MBA, and it showed me the value in having a business background with an engineering degree.”

Another student noted, “I had my eye set on this program since I transferred to Texas A&M. I think the program is excellent and I also think it should be implemented into all engineering curriculum during senior year.”

The program costs more than $1,000 per student. With the generous support of its sponsors, Halliburton, Chevron Phillips Chemical Company and Capitol One, the 2014 business management certificate program was offered to students at the cost of $600 per student.
