The award recognizes individuals whose research and accomplishments exemplifies the spirit of innovations within The Texas A&M University System.

Kuo will receive his award during the Patent and Innovations Award Event on April 25 at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center.

Kuo’s research interests include nano and microelectronics with special interests in semiconductor materials, processes and devices as well as think films and plasma technology; and new materials, novel processes and advanced devices with the ultimate goal of creating high-performance, highly reliable, manufacturable devices for current and future applications.

Among Kuo’s developments is the fabrication of a new type of LED that is capable of producing a wide spectrum light while operating for long periods of time at atmospheric conditions.

The LEDs could potentially be integrated into a computer processor, dramatically increasing the speed by transporting signals optically rather than by electrons through copper lines. They could also has use in various industries, entertainment, medical, commercial, and military areas due to the compact size and low cost.
