Dr. MurphyDr. Robin Murphy, Raytheon Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and director of the Center for Robot Assisted Search and Rescue (CRASAR), will moderate a panel at the 2014 South by Southwest festival in Austin. 

The panel, “Drones: Policy, Privacy & Public Safety,” is part of the IEEE “Technology for Humanities” series and is slated for Monday (March 10) from 5-6 p.m. The panel will look at both the positive and negative impacts of drones.

Murphy will be joined by Helen Greiner, co-founder of iRobot and CEO of CyPhy Works, Dr. Noel Sharkey, a noted critic of U.S. drone policies, and Ardyth Williams, a former FAA official.

Additionally, Murphy will hold a book signing to promote her new book, Disaster Robotics.

Murphy joined the faculty at Texas A&M in 2008 and is best known for her work with search and rescue robots which have been used in the rubble of the World Trade Center following the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, as well as Hurricane Katrina and the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident.
